After Esther’s experience with a violinist’s street concert in Taipei, Taiwan, she began to create a painted violin sculpture. Esther lives in Maastricht, Netherlands – the city of the world-famous Andre Rieu – where she approached Martin Rijsemus the violin builder who looks after Rieu’s instruments. Violins with their musical capacity appear regularly in Esther’s paintings underlining the lightheartedness of the artist’s approach. Inspired by the elegance and body of the violin, the world-famous violin builders advised the artist in Esther’s new venture as she began to take the object of the violin out of her two-dimensional approach.
Ben Dollman of the Adelaide Symphony Orchestra demonstrated the craftsmanship of the artwork at the official opening night of this Ex Animo Art Gallery. Through talent and music, he proved by his performance that Esther’s incredible work did not hinder or alter the quality of the instrument.
