This particular version of the Young Aviator speaks of reaching great heights, of living with a ‘lightness of being’ and youthful energy and boundless drive. The red found in this piece also speaks of sunset, as at the end of this era, juxtaposed against the brother painting from this series, Young Aviator YELLOW PLANE, which unconsciously refers to the golden, rising sun… the beginning of this era.
Artist Statement:
The red plane, to me, reminds me of the particular deep red used on Tonka Truck toys when I was younger. It brings back fond memories of toy cars, planes, helicopters and for some reason fire-crackers! Remember when we were allowed to light them ourselves?
