Working with new mediums, Jane explores in this piece the beauty of traditional themes: native animals – capturing their essence with contemporary uses of naturalistic colours using encaustic wax on board. Surrounded by rugged and rolling hills and a habitat of a diverse range of flora and fauna, Smeets’ residence in a small coastal town within this region influences her choice of subject matter. The subject matter in this work of art supports an authentic connection and relationship to her artwork.
