There are two big old Outeniqua Yellowwoods – a gorgeous African tree species – in the Adelaide Botanic Garden. Their bark is quite unique and beautifully textural. The bark consists of multicoloured angular flakes that together create patters that suggest the outlines of kangaroos, otters, platypus, turtles, all manner of birds, as well as human female forms – this is an abstracted portrait of one of the two trees.
