Believed to have been built in 179 BC, the Tetrapylon was one of four similar monuments at the major intersection in Palmyra, Syria. They were constructed during the reign of Diocletian during his renovations of Palmyra. The momument features a square platform with four columns supporting a 150 tonne cornice, with a pedestal and statue in the middle.
