In this particular painting, Tara reels in an ‘Alice In Wonderland’ feel. To her, tea represents the opportunity to take time out, relax, reflect, refresh, delight the senses and connect with those around you. Although our Alice does not have other people with her, I often enjoy using small animals as one’s ‘friends’ that we are communing with. Her use of the gold ribbons against the bold teal blue sky brings a real sense of the gift of presence that one can offer to the world.
This piece is special to me, as I used my own hair as a paintbrush for the super fine whispy hairs on the young woman featured in the painting. I like to bring forth the idea that women hold magic and wonder and an ethereal presence. An intangible quality that gives them a ‘lift’. Sometimes, we have to make our own magic!
