Following classical studies in high school, and with a love of Ancient History, architecture and travel, Anthony Smerdon has become quite the sculptural craftsman. Grateful to combine his longtime career with his newfound hobby, he has spent over eight years transforming formless plaster pieces into extraordinary, miniature versions of architectural wonders. Inspired by various monuments he has viewed worldwide, as well as being inspired by local architectural designs in his home town of Adelaide, Smerdon is always on the lookout for new ideas: “I derive my inspiration from places I travel, particularly focusing on the Victorian and Georgian era. I also keep an eye out for the smaller pieces I require, such as little candlesticks, and other antiques or textures I discover”.
A man with a can-do attitude, Anthony Smerdon has immersed himself in the world of sculpting, researching the best resources, tools and techniques in order to achieve his vision for each unique piece. His greatest joy is seeing other people engage with his sculptures and find as much delight and fascination with them as he does.
